Custom Motors Requires ASE Certification

ASE certified technicians, mechanics and master mechanics have proven their technical competence by passing ASE certification tests. Acheiving ASE certification allows individuals to prove their technical competence to themselves, to their employers, and to their customers.

How ASE Certification Works

ASE tests are administered twice each year at over 750 locations. Technicians are required to pass at least one exam and provide proof of two years of safe work experience. ASE also grants "Master Techician" status to individuals who pass a complex series of exams and have acquired sufficient safe work experience.

In addition to standard exams, ASE offers specialty programs that cover all major areas of automobile, truck and school bus service and repair. ASE offers testing in engine repair, engine performance, electrical/electronic systems, brakes, heating and air conditioning, suspension and steering, manual drive train and axles, and automatic transmissions.

ASE requires technicians to re-test every five years to keep up with technology and to remain certified. All ASE credentials have expiration dates.
